Are You on the Verge of Giving up?

Don't give up

Do you feel you have got enough disappointment and failure and on the verge of giving up on life? Have you gotten to that point in your life when the future seems so uncertain that you no longer see any reason why should continue to live? Have you been depressed for a very long time over the unpleasant experiences life has thrown at you?

I share your pain and I understand how you feel. The truth is so many people you see around you today who are joyous have at one point or the other in their lives passed through your kind of experience. The actual experience might be different, but at one point or the other we all get to a point in life where we become completely hopeless about certain things that we almost give up on living.
"The burden of trials, temptations, and tribulation is not peculiar to the lives of the mystics and avatars only. It is a burden which is inescapable for every mortal soul.” ---Bayo Fajemilua

No matter what you are going through right now, have it in mind that your current hopelessness will not last.  That is the truth. Like the sun, the moon, the plant, the lower animals, the sea and all the creatures within it, you are part of nature.

Everything in nature at one point or the other experiences a dark moment.  They all experience moments of drought and hopelessness. Take the earth for instance, at a time there will be brightness, and before you know it darkness will cover the earth, and at another time not too long, the sun will rise and spread brightness across the earth. The snail when in adversity goes into hibernation. It would be in that state without food and water until the environment becomes favorable.

Consider the trees and grasses in dry season, due to the absence of water, they become very dry that their fresh and green leaves turn yellow. Sometimes the, the tree will become so dry that the leaves will start to drop. In the case of grasses, they become so dry that you begin to wonder if at they would ever regain their greenish and fresh nature.

As we have always observed, the dry season will pass, and the raining season will come in. As rain continues to fall, the old leaves die out, and new leaves will start to sprout from the stem. Over time the trees and grasses regain their freshness, and greenish nature.

You are part of nature; going through tough times is part of the realities every mortal and all the inhabitant of the earth must experience. What you should know is that tough times and negative experience are temporary, they are short-lived, and they will soon pass away. No matter how dark and dim the future seems based on your current reality; keep your hope alive, you can still live your best life. Job said,
“There is hope for a tree that is cut off, for it shall sprout out again.”
In your difficult moment, do yourself the favor of knowing why you are suffering, think of a way out, take action on your discovered solutions, keep working and let your hope be intact. It may be long, but your life will experience joy and happiness again, just the way the dry grasses regain their freshness and greenish nature after a long dry season.

No matter what, don’t give up on yourself, don’t give up on life, and don’t give up on hope. Even when hope is not forthcoming, you must hope against hope.
It is not mere words of encouragement that “tough times don’t last,” it is a universal truth. “Tough times don’t last, but tough people do,” said Robert schuller

  1. What an inspiring message! I especially like your points about taking action and that bad times will pass. I often refer to life as a roller coaster ride with many highs and lows for the same reason. Thank you for such an encouraging and insightful read.

  2. I always think about the quote about Albert Einstein. If he quit at that last failure where would we be today? We are just one failure away from success.

    1. Hi Dr.Elise,
I like your reference to Albert Einstein. He once said, I tried and tried, ninety-nine times I was wrong, the hundredth time I was right. I am inspired by your recap statement, we are just one failure away from Success. Thanks for your contribution.

  3. Hi Taiwo,

Very inspirational as is your usual style! Giving up is something many of us face at different times in our lives.

When plagued by failure it's easy for many people to give up on themselves. When people head down this avenue of thinking they have forgotten that we learn from our mistakes!

Anyone down on themselves needs to read what you have written, nice work mate!

  5. I liked your style of writing. I never thought of a tree being so dry that it looses its leaves. No matter what you are going through right now, have it in mind that your current hopelessness will not last. Very true, don't give up hang in there, it will be ok.

  6. Hi Taiwo,

Thoreau wrote "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” What was true in his day, is still true. If you live long enough, you'll experience heartache and troubles.

However well intended our advice to keep moving is, someone in the depth of chronic depression aren't able to change how they feel by using their will-power. They need professional help.

Offering someone with depression the hope of a better day, may help them intellectually, but they can't respond organically.

Although depression is complex, posts like this one will help raise awareness of this sickness. Thanks for sharing,
    Edward

    1. Hi Edward,
I like you relating the application of this post to a case of chronic depression. Depression is a serious mental illness and people suffering from it are advised like you rightly said, to seek professional help. However, anyone who has not lost the control of his will or mind can get some inspiration from this post.
      Thanks for your insightful comment.

    1. Hi Cherry,
Depression can really make us lost the control of our mind. Sometimes, rationalizing why we should be happy does not really help.
I like your strategy of counting your blessings .It shifts the mind from the situations, things or events that triggers negativity to that of positive thinking.
Thanks for adding value to this post.
