5 Questions You Should Ask Yourself If You Are Not Yet Successful

5 Questions you should ask yourself if you are not yet successful

Do you truly have the feeling of being successful or you still feel your life is a ship going nowhere?  If you feel within you that you have not yet arrived, you are not alone.
So many of us have not reached eureka point in our search for greatness or success. That point where we can beat our chest that our efforts have finally paid off. While many feel unsuccessful at one point in their lives, and remain at that same point until they die, some also had the same feeling and  became dissatisfied with their condition. They ask relevant questions, and turn their lives around.

My purpose for writing this post is to assist you with some questions that can help you redefine your life, and things that are really important to you so that you can attain the kind of success you desire.
If you feel you are not yet successful, here are the basic questions you need to ask yourself, and provides answers to. It is important to know that this questions are not arranged in order, and some may not pertain to where you are right now in your personal journey. Just take time to go through them and think about the ones you need.

1.What is my definition of success

In my book, winning paradigm for tough times, I wrote my chapter one title as “define success for yourself.” You need to ask yourself, “What does success mean to me?”  “What feat will I attain in life that would mean success to me?” It is very easy for every one of us to fall victim of living our lives as the society expects. When you become a victim of that, you will be living your life in competing with others. Success to you will mean catching up with the joneses. That is a wrong place to be. You must take a deep look at your life, and define how you want your best life to be. It does not necessarily need to be the type of life everyone desire, but you must find out what you want out of life. Living life without an idea of what constitute success to you is like living a directionless life. Your life can easily be tossed around by what other people are doing when you don’t know what you are living for. When you don’t have your own definition of success, what you have would never be enough for you. You will likely suffer from the disease called “more.” The best way to define success for yourself is to write down your life time goal. State vividly how you want your life to be. Let it cover areas such as relationship, finances, health, spirituality, values and so on.
Think about this instruction declared by Anne Sweeney:
“Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you are proud to live.”

2. Can I really become successful doing what I am doing now?

The author of "Think and Grow Rich," Napoleon Hill said, "Success is a progressive realization of a worthwhile goal." Let us assume you have defined success for yourself, one other question you need to ask is whether what you are currently doing will help you achieve the kind of success you desire. Success is an end. It is a destination. It takes the right action in the direction of your goal or the kind of success you desire to actualize it. No matter how busy you are, if your efforts are not in the direction of your goal, it will get you nowhere. If you must be successful, you must make sure that your daily actions align with the kind of success you want to be. You may not be successful overnight, but if you keep working on your goal, one day, you will find yourself living the kind of life you want to live, or getting the kind of result you want. It all begins with making effort in the direction of your goal.

3. How can I achieve my desired success?

It is not enough to know what you want in life, you must also know how to get it. To achieve success, you must consistently take action to ensure that your dream become a reality. It is your job to know what set of actions you will need to take. To answer this question, you may need to study the lives of those who have achieved what you are planning to achieve, and find out what they did to achieve that feat. If they have written a book, you can buy their book and read, or consult them for advice. At all cost find out what you need to do, and do it. The knowledge you have about how to get to where you want to be is the vehicle that will carry you to your desired success.

4. What factors are holding me back?

If you are reading this post, you probably already have your own idea of success, but have not yet arrived. If you have defined success for yourself, and have been making efforts to realize your goal but it seems nothing is happening, one thing you need to find out is the factor(s) holding you back. There are many factors that can prevent one from success. You know yourself more than anyone else, by going to a quiet environment with your pen and a paper, you can ask yourself this question, take a deep look at your life and identify those things holding you back. In my personal life, I once did same assessment and found out some factors, some of which include, procrastination, improper planning , indiscipline, inability to take action, fear of failure and so on. You need to find out what factors are holding you back, and do something about them.

5. Will my life remain like this?

If you really want to be successful and your life seems stuck at a point, you need to ask yourself if your life will remain as it is. The answer to that question lies in your hand. The truth is that success doesn’t just happen. It is a product of consistent effort in the direction of goal. If you don’t do anything about becoming successful, by default you will end up a failure. I know you don’t want your life to remain the same, you want an improvement. You want to live your wildest dream. The possibility of success lies in your hand. "We are the master of our fate" said William Henley , "we are the captain of our soul." You must challenge yourself against all odd that living your dream life is possible.  George Eliot said,
“It is never too late to be what you might have being.”
Whatever you have decided to achieve in life, you must have it in mind that it won’t come to you on a silver platter. You will have to pay a price for it by taking actions that correspond to the kind of outcome you want. It may be long before you start living your ideal life, however, with hard work, dedication, determination and perseverance you will create the kind of life you want.

  2. Hello Taiwo! Wow now these are some great questions to be thinking about if you have not met your goals yet! Great share my friend.
    Thanks Chery :))

  3. Hi Taiwo. These are some great questions to ask ourselves. I think we sometimes overlook the successes in our lives and focus on the one thing we haven't achieved yet. For example, I am a successful wife and mother. I'm pretty talented on the computer. I understand WordPress, GetResponse, social media. I am terrible at direct sales and let that overshadow my whole life until I just set it aside to focus on what I can be successful at. We need to see ourselves more as other people see us. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    1. Hi Deedee, I can relate to your contribution. We often undervalue what we have and overvalue what we don't have.
      Thanks for your comment.

  4. Hello Taiwo To move from where we are to where we want to be. Such an excellent article. I have written out the key points to keep. I want to live a successful life but unless I really write down what success is to me I will never achieve it. Success is a product of consistent effort in the direction of the goal. Thanks for this wonderful article as well as the 3 powerful questions article.

Funnily enough, some of these are questions I have been asking myself over the last few weeks and they have caused me to have a pretty fundamental change of direction in both my personal and business life. I wrote a blog post about it recently.

    1. Hi Joy,
I am glad you can relate with this post and Deedee's comment. We need questions to redefine our lives. Thanks for your comment.

  7. Yes, it is how you measure success, do you mean financial success and how do you measure that? Does success only mean financial success when you are talking about business? I don't believe it does but for some that is all there is.

    Enjoy the journey!

    1. Hi Mandy,
Success is relative. What constitute success to each individual is determined by the goal he or she is trying to reach. It may be financial, relationship, health and fitness, self I actualization etc

  8. Thanks for another thought-provoking post worth bookmarking! I'm going to need to ponder these questions and come up with some answers...

    1. Hi Karen,
Good to know you find this post helpful.

  9. Taiwo,
I know what it takes to succeed. I have done so much training and now I am implementing. And it is hard work. For my 3rd virtual summit I have connected with a group of high level, wonderful caring people, 32 people, 32 bios and interview pages and videos, etc. The end result is like a masterpiece that can be offered to people out there who really need some help. So many answers provided in one place. It's exciting. And each time I create another summit, new people come to me and invite me to speak at their events - so it just keeps growing. And, aside from the deluge of work involved, it is really fun.

    1. Hi Dr.Erica,
I am glad to know you are doing great.
      Keep it up.

  10. Hi Taiwo,

Certainly, when people get stuck and are blocked from realizing their dreams... there are reasons.

You've suggested some of those reasons here, and they need to be contemplated on... like you said, in quiet with pen and paper.

Figure out what is holding you back and make it your mission to get past those obstacles.

No silver platter... take time to identify your stumbling blocks... determine to overcome them... take action every single day to do it.

    Very inspiring article :)

  12. I am so happy to see that you started off with the importance of defining your success! So many people fail to do this and without a clear definition you're either going to end up following someone else's dream or frustrated because you're trying to hit a moving target. Excellent advice. :-)
