6 Things to Cut off If You Really Want to Move Forward in Life

6 Things to let go if you want to succeed

Many times we know we are not satisfied with the life we are living but no matter how we desire change, we keep finding ourselves in the same rut over and over again.
One thing you should know is that, mere desire for change and transformation does not cause transformation, it is taking appropriate steps to having the things we desire to have and becoming who we want to be that bring about change.
I have discovered from my own experience that if I keep doing what I have been doing, I will continue to get the kind of result I have been getting, but if I want change and transformation, I must do what I have never done before  which offer the  promise of a better life.
It doesn’t matter the goal you are trying to reach, if you must move forward and attract better things into your life, you must cut these six things off your life. They are as follows:

1. Negative thinking:  It has been said that “as a man thinketh so is he.” If you must move forward, the first place to begin is in taking charge of your thoughts. Thought is the foundation of all achievement whether success or failure. Positive and possibility thinking will help you to build the kind of life you desire, while thoughts of fear, doubt, worry, frustration, anger, envy will create misery and poverty for you. Research has shown that the human mind works to create the physical kind of the thought that is impressed upon it. If you allow your mind to be filled with negative thoughts, no matter how much you try, you will keep getting undesirable outcome in your life. If you want to be rich for instance, focus your mind on riches and the feeling that comes from being a rich person, overtime the thought will sink into your subconscious mind which will work out for you the necessary strategies you need to attain riches. Focus your mind on what you want and not the opposite.

The mistake we often make is focusing our thoughts on the things we don’t want. You want riches but you keep thinking of your poverty, you want sound health, but you keep thinking of illness, you want success but focus your mind on failure. In as much as your mind is fixed on the negative, you will keep attracting them into your life. The way out is to learn how to take charge of your thoughts, and make all effort to cut off every entanglement with negative thinking. That is your first key to moving forward.

2. Bad habits: success usually doesn’t come from a single action, it is always a result of combined actions, and this is also true for failure. Jim Rohn said, “Success is neither magical nor mysterious, it is a natural result of daily application of basic fundamentals.”  Action when performed consistently often become relegated to the subconscious mind and become a habit. If our habits are bad, bad in the sense that by indulging in them, it would become difficult to reach our goals, then to keep engaging in bad habits and expecting to move forward will be a mirage.

This calls for the reason why you need to do a self assessment and think of how you live your life on daily basis. Consider those behaviours and actions that are keeping you at a standstill, then make a conscious decision and effort to knock them off your life. I recommend that you include the following habits in your list of habits to be discarded: procrastination, indecision, overeating, oversleeping, smoking and drinking of harmful substances, over indulgence in sexual intercourse, living life by default, inaction and many more which are unique to your own situation.

Think and make a list of what you ought to be doing instead of these bad habits. Resolve to replace the bad habits with good ones, practice your newly selected good habits over and over until they become your new set of habits. By doing this, you have made the choice to alter your destiny for good.  Mahatma Gandhi summarizes it this way, “…….your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.”

3. Ignorance: Sometimes, the reason why many of us are stagnant and not doing well is because we are ignorant of vital information or idea that will get us out of our rut. You see, ignorance is not an excuse, not even in this information age. You must strive as much as possible to know exactly what you want in life, and make effort to find the necessary information that will help you to acquire it. If you must move forward in this age, you must do away with ignorance and superstition. To defeat ignorance, you must become knowledgeable, and to be vast in knowledge you must become a reader. You must make the choice to be a life-long learner today, to know everything you need to know about how to get to your next level. If you know how to read but refuse to read, you are in no way better than an illiterate who doesn’t know how to read and write. The best thing that can ever happen to a man is to know how to read. Decide today to read your way to relevance.

4. Purposeless use of social media and the internet: Today the internet has made the world a global village. Using the internet has many advantages, and with it also comes many disadvantages. We are now bombarded with information from all side, both the one we need and the ones we don’t need. We are always tempted to join one group or the other, to engage in unproductive conversation, and read information that will in no way add values to our lives.

Having found ourselves in this kind of mess, what we are expected to do in order to avoid unnecessary distractions and move forward is to engage in conscious, purposeful and deliberate use of social media and the internet. To do this, you need to focus on only conversations, groups, and information that will add value to your life and help you to move forward in the direction of your goal. Doing otherwise is a waste of your precious time, and don’t forget that time lost can never be regained.

5. Bad association: A wise man once said how your life we look like between now and the next 5 years would be determined by two important factors, “the books you read,” and “the people with whom you associate.”  Ancient wisdom from the bible reveals that “he that walks with the wise shall be wise but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.”
If you really want to move forward, auditing your association is something vital you must do. Make deliberate effort to cut off every form of association that is not adding value to your life and not helping you to reach your goal. Make deliberate effort to surround yourself with people who will add value to your life and help you to achieve your goal.Always remember that “it is better to be alone than to be in the wrong company.”

6. Inaction: it is a fact that so many of us know exactly what we want. Knowing what you want and merely hoping that it will become a reality one day is the highest level of foolishness. Nothing moves unless you move it. Your dream will never come to pass if you fail to take the necessary steps that are needed to bring them to pass.  Inaction is a bad habit; it is an unconscious decision to be a failure. If you must have the things you desire to have and become the person you want to be, you must take an offensive approach to realizing your aspirations. You can never move forward in life when you fail to chase your dream.
